Dan Caporale is the Chairman and Founder of Hire Our Heroes. For over 20 years, Dan Caporale has stood as an advocate of America’s servicemen and women. His dedication to our nation’s active duty defenders and veterans has become a tireless crusade of support, service and gratitude to all those who have served before him to protect our freedom and serve our country.
In 2013, to expand upon his individual and personal volunteering efforts, Dan formed Hire Our Heroes, a not-for-profit organization founded by veterans for veterans. The mission of Hire Our Heroes (HOH) is to empower veterans and employers with the knowledge, skills, and innovative tools necessary to optimize a strategic workforce. Mr. Caporale brings over 15 years of experience and accomplishments in business management, technology, telecommunications, business development, leadership and training in the staffing industry, as a supplement to his dedication to service. In addition to being the founder of Hire Our Heroes, he is a tireless and deeply committed advocate and supporter of many charitable causes benefitting our nation’s military including the USO, The Boulder Crest Retreat, The Mission Continues, and Habitat for Humanity – building homes for veterans, to name a few. Mr. Caporale currently serves as an active volunteer for both the Marine Corp League and AFCEA NOVA.
In 1998, Mr. Caporale took his collective experience and formed Multiple Streams, a professional services firm, where he held the position of CEO. Prior to his engagement as CEO of Multiple Streams, Dan Caporale, a proven leader and Marine Corps veteran, served as Sergeant and Satellite Communications Specialist in the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve.[/expand]
[expand title=”Tim Kirk – Vice Chairman and Co-Founder“]
Tim Kirk is the Vice Chairman and Co-Founder of Hire Our Heroes. Tim retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 2012 as a Master Gunnery Sergeant (E-9). Tim served in several fields of expertise spanning more than 26 years with the last 12+ years as a Career Recruiter in Prior Service Recruiting. Tim was hand-selected for his final assignment to establish the National Recruiting Operations and Consultative Sales Trainer position for the National Training Team, Marine Corps Recruiting Command in Quantico, Virginia. As a subject matter expert, Tim was instrumental in the successful design, development, implementation and evaluation of several Marine Corps communication, consulting, coaching, counseling, performance, philosophy, programming, and public speaking forum programs.
Shortly after Tim retired he was hired as the Director, Government Services for a small IT Professional Staffing and Technology Consulting Services Company where he worked in Business Development. Tim is an exceptional communicator who develops intimate knowledge of his client’s business and industry to drive value-added, long term relationships and business opportunities built on trust. He also served as the Facility Security Officer and Contracting Officer working with prime contractors to understand and capture business throughout the life-cycle. Tim is a dynamic and dedicated team leader with a solid track record focused around mentoring and coaching.
Tim earned his Bachelor of Arts in Management from National University and is currently a full-time student in the Executive Master of Business Administration Program at San Diego State University and possesses an active Top Secret Security Clearance.[/expand]
[expand title=”William Hefty – Executive Director“]
William Hefty enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1992, completing recruit training at MCRD San Diego that same year. Following recruit training, Hefty went on to MCT and MOS basic course, Aviation Electrician in Memphis, Tenn.
Following his various schools, William spent his first 7 years as an enlisted Marine stationed in Cherry Point, NC as a Harrier avionics Marine. In 1998 he was accepted for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program. From 1999-2001, William attended The Citadel as a MECEP student earning a B.A. in History and Spanish.
Upon completing his educational requirements, William was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and attended The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course in Quantico, Virginia. Upon completion of these schools, he received orders to Camp Lejeune, NC for duty with 2d Battalion 8th Marines as an infantry platoon commander. During his time at 2/8, William deployed three times in support of Operation’s Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, serving as a rifle platoon commander and 81mm mortar platoon commander and spending time in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Upon successful redeployment to the United States, following his third deployment, William received orders to MCRD Parris Island where he served as a Series Commander and the Officer In Charge of the Parris Island swim training tank.
After two years at Parris Island, William was asked to return to the Operating Forces, and assume company command. As a member of 3d Battalion 6th Marines, he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq and Marjah, Afghanistan serving as a company commander for both deployments. In September 2010, William returned to the United States and accepted orders to Inspector-Instructor duty, Columbia South Carolina.
During this time, William began his work with non-profit management. As the I&I, he was the lead for Toys For Tots in Midlands, SC. In addition to this role, he also served as a board member and Executive Director of the Ultimate Challenge Mud Run in Columbia, SC. Having gained a passion for non-profit work with these two organizations, William sought other opportunities to serve and ultimately accepted roles on multiple boards and committees throughout midlands, SC in roles with the state foster care review board, young professional societies and philanthropic organizations.
Upon his retirement, William accepted a position as the Executive Director of the veteran’s services non-profit, Military Community Connection, based in Charleston, SC. A family medical emergency required him to leave MCC and take care of his family, however he is now back in the non-profit world and is pleased to accept the position as Executive Director of Hire Our Heroes, a Veterans Services non-profit based in Leesburg, VA. [expand title=”Stephen Fink – Treasurer“]
Stephan Fink joined the HOH Board of Directors in July of 2013. Stephen is an 8 year Army veteran and had the distinction of serving in The Old Guard based out of Washington DC. While there, he was part of the Presidential Escort and Alpha Companies Color Guard. During the attacks on September 11th, Mr. Fink led a squad during the recovery and clean up of the Pentagon. Afterwards he was hand selected to serve in OSD Public Affairs and then OSD Legislative Affairs.
Upon leaving the military in 2006, Mr. Fink utilized his GI Bill to earn a Bachelors Degree in Business and Organizational Leadership out of Corban University in Salem Oregon. Mr. Fink is currently working on his Masters Degree in Business and only has one additional class to finish.He has served as a federal business consultant for numerous companies and is currently the COO of United Global Group, a veteran owned, HUBZone, small business based out of Fredericksburg Virginia.[/expand]
[expand title=”Joseph Fairbanks Jr. – Board of Directors“]
Joseph Fairbanks joined the HOH Board of Directors in July 2015. Joseph is an eight year US Navy veteran serving from 1973 until 1981. During this time he served aboard the USS Dahlgren in Norfolk VA, where he made multiple deployments to the Mediterranean and South America, and as a Navy Recruiter in Trenton, NJ, where he earned the Navy Achievement Medal for outstanding performance. After his service he attended West Chester University on the GI Bill majoring in computer science.
Joseph recently retired after a successful career in technology sales. Over his 30+ year career he has been a part of and led successful sales organizations with industry leaders such as IBM where he spent 12 years and ANSYS Inc. where he spent the final 13 years of his career. In his last assignment he was the global leader of sales and support at ANSYS Inc. where he led an organization of over 1200 professionals for the industry leading company in the engineering simulation technology industry.
Having successfully transitioned from a military life and career to a private sector career, Joseph has joined Hire Our Heroes to help other veterans have the same opportunities and experience. The qualities and traits developed and fostered in the military service are vitally important to a successful career in the private sector.[/expand]
